Global Forum on Youth and ICT

Hallo Leute!

Als Teil meines Praktikums nehme an vielen Konferenzen teil, und Genf ist die Stadt der Konferenzen, wie ihr wahrscheinlich wisst. Ich habe schon etwa zehn Konferenzen und Seminaren verschiedener Art hinter mir. Meine letzte Konferenz, die von UNO organisiert, genannt „Global Forum on Youth and ICT (information, communication and technologies)“, war sehr beeindruckend. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass jeder, der mit „International Community“ zu tun hat, macht etwas Gutes für die Community und etwa „rettet die Welt“ von verschiedenen globalen Problemen, wie HIV/AIDS, Armut usw. Im Anhang sieht ihr mehr detaillierter Entwurf, was die Projekte in aller Ecke der Welt betrifft. Was ich damit sagen wollte, ist, lassen uns auch die Welt „retten“, mit unseren Ideen. Denn wir sind auch die zukünftige Internationals. Außerdem ist unsere ICEUS Gruppe schon eine International Community.

Challenges:
Youth in developing countries with:
- HIV/AIDs and helping them make their lives better
- the lack of qualitative education
- the lack of basic resources
- unemployment
- computer illiteracy etc.

How can the Information Computer Technologies be of use in the rural areas of the developing countries?

Possibilities and Implementation:
On going projects in different part of the world initiated and run by youth of the world:
- “Pay phone -the pilot entailed giving a community school a cell phone to use as an income generating activities. The money collected from the pay phone of the school the teachers get salaries and are able to teach in the regular basis.” (Zambia)
- teaching the school materials to the rural students (grading from 1-7) through the radio broadcasting (Zambia)
- educating people of the HIV Prevention methods through concerts and performances, computer games (some African countries, such as Botswana, Mali)
- video interactive projects for disabled people, especially in Africa (Zambia and in some of the neighbouring countries)
- improving the examination system through computer based correction programmes (Senegal)
- explaining the human rights of the youth in developing countries through MTV (Latin America)
- creating digital villages, e-kiosks, mobile e-centres (India, Pakistan)
- eliminating the computer literacy (Egypt, Syria)
- “free toaster” projects –making cheap or free computer programmes and distributing them wherever they are needed (some African countries and Indonesia)
- MDG (the Millennium Development Goals) phones-the awareness training

Taking into account:
- Training by demand of the global market
- Cultural sentimentalities of countries
- The local knowledge
- Affordability of the initiated resources etc.

Strength in Partnerships
- With the international organisations
- With the multinational companies
- With the local governments
- With the youth
